What is the RenewMap interactive map?
The map is RenewMap’s core feature, allowing you to visualise renewable energy projects in Australia and New Zealand.
Key features include:
- Project table view: Filter, compare and export project data.
- Base maps: Switch between satellite, street, wind and solar resource views.
- Layers: Add overlays for technology, project status, infrastructure, networks and renewable energy zones.
- Search: Find projects by name, location, developer or owner.
- Project updates: View a live feed of daily updates to projects and subscribe to email notifications for specific projects.
- Navigation controls: Zoom, pan and measure distances on the map.
You can save or share your map view by bookmarking the URL, which reflects the current zoom and location coordinates.

What are base maps in RenewMap?
Base maps (also called base views or base layers) provide the geographic context for all other layers.
Available base maps:
- Satellite: Earth imagery at 9.5m/pixel resolution.
- Street: Dark and light mode urban infrastructure maps.
- Wind resource: Mean wind speed at 100m or 150m AGL.
- Solar resource: Irradiance in kWh/kWp to evaluate PV output potential.
How to change a base map:
Select the current base map in the layer panel and choose your preferred option.
What are layers and how do I use them?
Layers overlay specific spatial data on top of base maps. Stacking layers gives an interactive visualisation of renewable energy projects.
Available layers include:
- Updates: Shows recently updated project locations.
- Project status: Development, construction, commissioning, operating, decommissioned, abandoned.
- Technology: Onshore and offshore wind, solar, battery, hydro, pumped hydro, biomass, geothermal, hydrogen and more.
- Network: Visualise operating transmission and distribution networks, as well as new transmission projects under development or construction.
- Infrastructure: Wind turbine locations and gas pipelines.
- Renewable energy zones: Government and AEMO REZ overlays.
- Custom layers: Upload KML, geoJSON, or JSON files, or add layers from a URL to enhance your map view.
Tip: Start broad with technology layers and narrow down to focus on specific projects.
What is the table view?
The table view lets you filter, compare and export project details. It includes:
- Project information: Status, capacity, storage, developer, owner and more.
- Grouping & filtering: Organise projects by location, technology, DA status, or other fields.
- Custom columns: Add or remove fields to compare projects relevant to your needs.
- CSV export: Export data for use in other systems.
Tip: Start with general filters and gradually narrow down to avoid missing opportunities.
