Australia's transition to a net zero economy is well underway but it hasn't always been easy to see the full picture. The Net Zero Economy Authority (NZEA) has launched the Net Zero Investment Map, a new interactive platform providing visibility over more than 800 Commonwealth Government-supported renewable energy, hydrogen and net zero research projects across Australia.

Developed in partnership with RenewMap, the map brings together project information from a range of Commonwealth investment schemes for the first time, enabling workers, communities, industry and investors to access a consolidated view of where government-backed net zero investment is occurring and how projects are progressing.

What the Net Zero Investment Map shows

For the first time, users can explore in one place:

  • Where Commonwealth-supported projects are located
  • Their status, from development through to operation
  • Government support
  • Estimated investment and job creation (where available)
  • Expected power generation
  • Contextual infrastructure including transmission lines, renewable energy zones (REZs) and power station closure dates

The result is a clearer, more connected view of Australia's net zero build-out – not as isolated projects, but as a system taking shape over time.

Supporting clearer information on the energy transition

NZEA Chief Executive Officer David Shankey said the map provides communities, workers, industry and investors with clearer, consolidated information on Australia's energy transformation.

The Net Zero Investment Map highlights how Australia's transition to a net zero emissions economy is already underway, with new investment, jobs and opportunities across the country,

The Net Zero Economy Authority helps coordinate Australia's transition to net zero with clear, accessible information for communities, business and government. The Net Zero Investment Map is one of the tools that can help us do that.

Bringing complex datasets together

RenewMap Co-founder and Director Alex Thompson said the partnership reflects the importance of consolidating complex datasets into a single, accessible view.

Australia has an extraordinary transformation ahead. By bringing these projects together in one interactive platform, the Net Zero Investment Map helps provide greater clarity on the breadth of Commonwealth investment across net zero research and renewable energy projects,

By consolidating these projects into a single, interactive platform, the Net Zero Investment Map helps Australians understand the broad spectrum of Commonwealth investment across net zero research and renewable energy projects.

The platform reveals where investment is flowing, what's being built, where net-zero research and development is happening and what it means for jobs, energy generation and communities.

The Net Zero Investment Map combines data from projects supported through a range of Commonwealth initiatives, including the Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS), the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC), the Regional Hydrogen Hubs Program and other programs.

The launch has been covered across industry and energy publications such as Renew Economy and PV Magazine, highlighting the tool's role in showing Commonwealth projects powering Australia's energy transition.

Ongoing updates

The Net Zero Investment Map does not yet include all Commonwealth-supported projects. NZEA will continue working with Commonwealth and state agencies and investment schemes to expand and regularly update the map over time.
